Archbishop Thomas Andrew S. Winkler, Ph.D., O.S.C.B

Archbishop Thomas Andrew S. Winkler, Ph.D., O.S.C.B., serves as the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Ecumenical Catholic Church of Christ (ECCC) in Germany and is also the founding chairman of Diacare e.V., an association dedicated to pastoral care, education, and social engagement. He is also a Benedictine monk, a theologian, and a spiritual director. His book was published in 2016by Fromm Verlag (see inset at left):

Jesu Botschaft für uns heute: Moderne Predigten und geistliche Gedanken (Eng., Jesus' Message for Us Today: Modern Sermons and Spiritual Thoughts).

Rooted in the Benedictine and Iro-Scottish spiritual traditions, Archbishop Thomas brings together theology, history, and pastoral psychology in his service to both Church and society. He was ordained a deacon in 2014, a priest in 2016, and a bishop in 2020. He became a full member of the ECCC as an archbishop in 2021 (see church news).

He studied theology with a strong focus on Church History, Medieval Studies, Patristics, Scholasticism, and Anglo-Catholic Theology at different colleges. His theological formation is complemented by a professional background in tourism, education, and leadership training (IHK Kassel-Marburg), combining academic insight with practical experience in management and human psychology.

 

Research Fields and Ongoing Formation: Medieval Studies (church and secular history), practical theology, monasticism, pastoral psychology, spiritual direction, Benedictine and Ignatian retreats, historical research on Celtic and early medieval monasticism.  â€‹
